Preparatory Work for the Advisory Board

To help the Advisory Board get started, several reports were prepared at the beginning of the mandate. This work was carried out by the Agency for Health and Food Safety GmbH and the Environment Agency Austria GmbH. The following reports were prepared:

This report provides an overview of the regulatory framework for activities involving radioactive substances in Austria. It shows for which purposes radioactive substances are used.

The report focuses on the description of some selected national solutions for the final disposal of low- and intermediate-level radioactive waste. In addition, the report provides a comprehensive overview of planned and existing repositories worldwide, with explanations of why certain options and solutions were selected.

This report analyzes past and ongoing processes of participation in the search for a repository in various countries in Europe and in North America. It brings together past participatory initiatives and comparable processes in dealing with radioactive waste disposal decisions. In particular, it highlighted good practice examples from countries where such processes have already been successfully implemented.
